Over the last few months people have been taking on the challenge and updating me on their progress via the blog, e-mail, or by posting on forums. A few days ago a guy posted on the FM Updates Forum by the name of "headshotbg" and said he didn't think it was really that difficult. At that point he had made huge changes to the playing staff and was just about to start season 3. Season 1 he cruised the 2nd divison with 111 points then season 2 he finished 4th thus getting into the Champions League. Later that day he posted again with Season 3's achievements. La Liga won, Spanish Cup won and Champions League Runners-up! This pretty much makes a mockery of the word "Challenge" on the blogs title. If that wasn't enough my post called "Take That Barcelona" has also been overshadowed. Take a look at this - Screen 1, Screen 2. I have left a post on the forum asking him to post screenshots of the tactics he used and if he does i will update this post with them.
I doubt if anyone will do better than this and up to now he is the only person i've seen be able to win anything. He says he is stopping at 3 seasons and to be honest i can't blame him. He is probably off to try something much harder!
*UPDATE* headshotbg had responded on the forum and has kindly given the following screenshot of the tactic used to win at Real Sociedad. The screenshot is from his new Real Madrid game and called Kimz. It can apparently be found on most FM websites or by doing a Google search. The version is v 2.1 with v1 layout. Thanks again to heatshotbg for letting me use the screenshots for the blog.

I doubt if he really did this on a fair way, but anyways, well done.
He has added another post and says - "I believe with this "aggresive" transfer policy many people should be able to make it in 5 seasons. The reputation of the club is simply enough to buy nice players". I for one believe him but the tactic he used obviously played a big part in it aswell.
Vincent, trust me, it is the fairest it gets. You can try similar tactics by yourself ;) Any club that has enough reputation at the start of the game can be brought to the top in a couple of seasons. Surely, you risk the bank balance and if you don`t succeed you end up... well, nowhere. You can find more details about the way I played @ the FM WeeGiE forums... Or Kevin can copy/paste some stuff from there if he wants :)
Kevin, you have over... can`t get the word right now... Flattered me. I don`t think it`s quite that big an achievement - when you have played many different save games on FM08, it gets really easy (not counting LLM of course), because you know what most players are capable of, you have your favorites, you know the bargains and so on... :)
P.S > I actually went to something much easier - an all-brazilian dynasty at R. Madrid... I`m going to play the current squad for 2 seasons till the youngsters get Spanish nationality and then I`m going to sell everyone :D
Cheers headshotbg. It is a big achievement to me only because i have struggled with it so far and i've seen many others struggle with it. If you look at the Sotitoutsi forum and check out the start of the "Fantastic Four" post under general discussion you will see them struggling also.
what patch is this on? minsterman?
I'm playing on the 8.02 patch not the minsterman update but i don't know what headshotbg was on when he won the trophies if you meant that.
I played on the latest FM WeeGiE update. There are no changes to the original database in terms of transfer money or reputation. WeeGiE only update kits and transfers - they make the game up-to-date :)

It is touted to be on of the best tactics for FM08. My other favorite would be "The Winning" :)
Hi headshotbg, when you used the Kimz tactic did you alter it when you played away from home or did you leave it? I may use it for season 5 in my game.
I sometimes make adjustments in the course of the match, but I don`t change home / away tactics :)

Since I dont have patch 8.0.0.2 is there an standard FM version too? ( no patches, not that i have an copy or something, I just play the first version since im too lazy to download the newer versions) thanks!
I have no idea if there is a version for 8.0.0, not many people use it :) I would advise you to patch your game to 8.0.2 - the experience is better because of many broken things being fixed :) Also, download WeeGiE latest - gives a more accurate game as well :)
Being a first time fmer (started playing about 6 months ago) do you lose your save game with an update?
The 8.02 patch is save game compatible so you wouldn't lose it. They recommend you start again so that all the fixes kick in but not necessary if you don't want to lose your Atletico game.
The patch will not affect you current game - it`s changes will have an effect on the new games you start :) (in terms of transfers and so I mean )

Well i hope it works for you and doesn't require you to start a new game because i have been enjoying reading about your Atletico game. After giving it some thought i'm not going to use it. I will stick with my own tactic i made and see how far i get with that. I will definitely use it for my network game though. My mates will wonder why i have became so good all of a sudden ha ha!
How did you get 132m to spend on players after being promoted in season one when your players sold only generated 50mil?
24 monthly payments. Only 1 - 1.5 mil upfront. When needed offer % of next sale as well... I`ve written this stuff on the WeeGiE forums.
For most people who manage their teams it wouldn't cross their minds to adopt such an aggresive transfer policy but as this challenge is only set for 5 seasons the long term stability of the club doesn't matter. I have a question for you though headshotbg. Did you only play 3 seasons because you thought if you played on you would get sacked due to the finances or did you stop for another reason?
Getting sacked? No way. In the beginning of the 4th season with just a single sold player the balance will be steady ;) I actually let the game on holiday for 2 more seasons to see what would happen - the 4th season finised 2 points behind R. Madrid and in the 5th I was champion again. I didn`t play the games though - only made some transfers :)
No bother mate i just had to rule that possibility out before anyone else said it ha ha. I'll be honest with you if i'd thought about it at the beginning i would have done the same. Only i wouldnt have sold Xabi Prieto so quick cos he is class..... although it doesn't look like you missed him. :D
hold on..... haha hold on... so vincent who says he beat rosenborg 11-0 away from and that leroy lita got 6 goals in the match thinks this guy is cheating. lol
Hi James i take it your talking about this screenshot. I can't speak for Vincent and i only started following his blog since he was Atletico so i don't know what tactic he played. Maybe Vincent will respond to the comment you left on his blog but Lita can't be that bad surely?! Headshotbg who i posted about got him on loan in his first season for RS. I haven't bought him before so don't know how good or bad he is!

Thanks for your comment mctimbo but i don't understand why you smell a cheat. Real Zaragoza are in Liga BBVA probably because they are rubbish. They are in that league in real life.
Ye but in the first season on 2008 they are in primera.
Yeh mate he has played it on a FM Weegie update. It is a genuine update that loads of people use. At the time of the update Zaragoza, Levante and Real Murcia were in the relegation zone in real life so the update will start with them in the 2nd division.
